J W's Story

About My Communities as they're listed here: I appear in several that I had no direct association with other than having friends who attended a school or workplace. I've yet to figure out how to add Communities without appearing as alumni also. If you have no memory of me you're not losing it----bear with me as I'm still learning my way here! Living in Reynoldsburg these days, self employed in the glass/windshield business. On the side I help a friend sell, design and install large, concert-style sound systems for live music. I love what I do so it really doesn't feel like work at all. Single, divorced, whatever---been there, done that with the marriage thing like so many of us probably. Love the concept but so far success in that has eluded me---still trying though. No kids by choice which seems to defy most "normal" peoples lives but once a rebel without a clue it seems always........... My former teachers would recognize this in me---of course I like to think of it as just being independant! Classmates suggests a few topics for us--here's a few of my responses: Some might recall one of my more memorable if not ill-advised acts: 11th grade during a rainy February day during our A-B-C lunch period--I was assigned the B period. While walking the halls back to study hall I very much accidently tripped one of the fire alarms in a game fellow classmates Gene Richards, Larry Waite and I played one too many times. Since the weather was so bad and it was during lunch AND not one single administrator had been forewarned it simply had to be an actual alarm---right? Well--I 'fessed up immediately more because I knew I'd be a marked man for interrupting lunch, during February and in the rain no less! I ...Expand for more
certainly knew how to leave an impression huh?? (I did suffer considerably--was even returning during my summer to serve out part of my detentions!) Also asked is one person I'd like to see again--hard to really choose just one. Immediately Mr Neely of my 7th grade SCC at Indianola Jr High comes to mind; Matthew Mansfield Neely as he was so fond of reminding us all. Honestly one of the most infulential and fun teachers of my entire school life. I learned so much without knowing it, learned how to learn on my own; loved his free spiirted and easy style of teaching. If I remember correctly he was seeking a Phd and a year spent teaching was one of the requirements. I wonder even now whether he made it? Does anyone remember his watch that he claimed would end the entire universe if it ever stopped? Also of note were teachers Mr (Bill) Stump, 8th grade science--a true motivator for me, very encouraging; Mr (Noel) Curran, 11th grade Biology, whose style was not only passionate but humorous, again learning without realizing it. He also struck me as one serious bad ass for some reason--the tough guys of the time never seemed to challenge him. Mr (Steve) Guyer, 7th grade metal shop teacher; encouraging in his own way. There are others but these few really stand out in my memory. Looking to see what my NHS class is up to these days---or even any old friends who visit here. I seemed to spend more time with friends from other schools oddly enough (West, Whetstone, McKinley, Upper Arlington, Bexley, Eastmore, etc) so its interesting to see how we've changed--or not--over the years. Feel free to say Hi---I check here often enough so no message will go unread and I always reply. Thanks and best wishes!
